Wheels & Wings Weekend is August 23-24th in Aberdeen, SD.  This event is a culmination of Sizzlin Summer Nights car & bike show with the Aberdeen Air Show. Come help us celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the 1st Air Show in SD which took place in Aberdeen!  Be prepared to have a great time with great food and lots of displays.  Both events are free with good will donations accepted.

Sizzlin' Summer Nights: The 9th Annual downtown car and bike show known as Sizzlin' Summer Nights will be Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Downtown Aberdeen, SD.  The show runs from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the parade starting at 9:00.  The event is free to participants and enthusiast alike.  This has become a popular event for the region as it supports 14,000 visitors annually and this year will not be a disappointment.  In 2007, approx 360 cars and over 200 bikes from a 3 state region attend.

Show area: This year’s event has been expanded to run from 6th Ave South to 3rd Avenue North on Main Street. The Avenues are being used to showcase our sponsors of this event.  No parking will be allowed on Main Street after 11 am and cars will be towed.

Participants: Anyone wishing to be a participant is welcome.  To enter the show area, drivers need to come onto Main Street from 6th Avenue only.  Free, general parking participants are to come no earlier than 3:00 pm and volunteers will be on hand to guide the drivers to their parking places.  There is no pre-registration and no entry fee.  If participants want to park with a particular group, we suggest purchasing parking places or the group needs to arrive as a group.

New for 2008: Reserved parking spaces will be sold to those who want specific parking spaces at $25 each.  Those who have purchased a parking space must come onto Main Street from 5th Ave between 2 and 3 pm only—if do not enter at that time, parking spaces will be released to the general public for free parking at 3 pm. No refunds, no subletting space, no commercial enterprises (no dealerships), no ‘for sale’ vehicles (unless pre-arranged).  Reserved parking spaces will go on sale August 1 until August 22nd. Call 605-226-3441 or email events@aberdeendowntown.org

Beer Garden: A beer garden will be set up between the two food courts at the green space across from the Ward Hotel.  Tents, table & chairs will be set up for the public’s convenience.  Alcohol will not be allowed to be taken outside of the area.

Brown County Speedway: On Friday night, August 22nd in a partnership with Brown County Speedway, cars interested in participating in the car show are also being been invited to also display at the Brown County Speedway prior to and during their regular races.  Any vehicles that are interested in participating at this additional showing, please call the Aberdeen Downtown Association office for more information at 605-226-3441 or email events@aberdeendowntown.org.

Food: Two food courts will be available to satisfy any cravings.  One food court will be located on 3rd Avenue, with the other in the parking lot north of the Dacotah Prairie Museum.  Picnic tables will be set up, along with portable bathrooms for show goers' convenience.  Downtown businesses will also be selling food items in front of or from their business.  This year's food selection includes pork sandwiches, ribs, pulled beef, hotdogs, brats, BBQ’s, Pizza, Gyros, corn dogs, ribbon fries, onion rings, nachos, walking and Indian tacos. For dessert, there is also assorted ice cream and frozen treats, fudges, popcorn and kettle corn, as well as a large variety of refreshments such as pop, water, lemonade, tea, and smoothies. There is something for everyone's taste!

Parade:   The parade will begin at 9:00 pm.  As in previous years, the Aberdeen Police Department will try to have officers at the intersections on 6th Ave. to help guide the parade through the traffic lights, however, where there is no officer, the parade participants must follow the law and obey all traffic signs/lights. And therefore, there may be lags in the parade.

Motorcycles:  The motorcycles will be located on Main Street between Railroad Ave and the tracks.  The Motorcycles are scheduled to make their entrance shortly after 5:00 pm.   Any bikers who wish to ride with the police escorted group are welcome.  Bikers are asked to be at Melgaard Park before 6:00 pm-with the group leaving at 6 pm;   for more information contact either Irene Hauck (605-22-33254) or Jan Weismental (Brown County Highway Shop).
